Categorize multiple documents

How to use the categorization wizard to categorize unclassified documents in bulk

Written by Pieter Buteneers

Emma automatically categorizes documents into the document types of your Information Request List (IRL). When the AI is confident, categorization happens without any manual input. When it isn't sure, those documents are marked as unclassified and shown at the top of the IRL sidebar on the Documents page.

Finding unclassified documents

Go to Documents (IRL view). At the top of the left sidebar you will see an Unclassified section showing the number of documents that still need to be categorized. Click it to see the list of those documents.

Starting the categorization wizard

If there are unclassified documents you can categorize them in one go using the wizard. Click Start categorization to begin.

The categorization wizard opens:

  • Left panel β€” your progress through the queue and basic document details

  • Centre β€” the document name, AI-generated summary, and the document itself

  • Right panel β€” document type picker

Assigning a document type

Search for the document type in the search bar on the right panel, then click it to assign the document.

If the correct document type does not exist yet, click the + icon in the top right to create a new custom document type and add it to your IRL. See Managing your Information Request List for details on creating custom document types.

When everything is categorized

If you open the Documents page and the Unclassified section is empty, the AI has successfully categorized all documents automatically β€” there is nothing left to review manually.

Recategorizing a single document

If you need to change the categorization of one specific document rather than working through the full queue, see Categorize a single document.

If you need additional help categorizing documents or encounter any other problem, don't hesitate to reach out through the chat bubble in the bottom right or contact [email protected].
